CANARA (CEHEGÍN)
The district of Canara is gearing up to experience its traditional festivities in honor of its patron saint, the Virgen de la Peña, from August 14th to 19th. These highly anticipated dates bring together locals, families, and visitors every year to share in devotion, tradition, and community spirit.
The celebrations will kick off on Friday, August 14th, with the traditional pilgrimage (romería) of the Virgen de la Peña, moving the statue from her hermitage to the church of Canara—one of the most eagerly awaited moments for residents. The day will continue with the Great Migas Night, an event that will once again gather attendees around local gastronomy and a festive atmosphere.
On Saturday, August 15th, the festival’s opening speech (pregón) will take place, delivered this year by Maravillas Espín Sánchez, marking the start of several days packed with activities and traditions.
The program also features some of the most characteristic events of these festivities, such as the traditional countryside running of the bulls (encierros de reses bravas por vereda), the Canara, Tú sí que vales, Talent Memorial, various food tastings, and other activities designed to enjoy these celebrations together.
The grand finale will take place on Sunday, August 23rd, with the traditional procession of the Virgen de la Peña back to her sanctuary, putting the finishing touch to the celebrations in honor of Canara's patron saint.
The festivities are held in collaboration with the Cehegin Ton Council through the Department of Festivals, led by Lolo García.
