October 13th, 1983, remains forever engraved in the memory of Los Alcázares as “the dreamed-of day awaited by an entire town”, as celebrated in the local anthem written by Antonio Albaladejo. On this historic date, the Decree establishing the independent municipality of Los Alcázares was signed, following the segregation of parts of the municipal districts of San Javier and Torre Pacheco, to which the town had previously belonged. Thus, a new municipality was born, covering 20.3 km² and shaped by the determination and aspirations of generations of local residents. Ten years later, in 1993, this emblematic commemorative monolith was erected on the Carrión seafront promenade, precisely on the line that once divided the town between the two municipalities. Facing the sea, as a silent witness to history, the monument symbolizes the unity of an entire community and commemorates the collective dream that made the municipal independence of Los Alcázares possible. In 2020, the monument was enhanced with the original boundary stone that once marked the division between the municipalities of Torre Pacheco and San Javier, further enriching the historical and symbolic value of this landmark cherished by residents and visitors alike.
